For the May long weekend we went to the mainland to visit our good friends, Sarah and Steve. While we were there we all went to the Vancouver Children's Festival. There were entertainers, activity tents, food, and music. It was a great time.

This year we had Thanksgiving at the Gulbrandsen's. Our family is getting bigger every year. There are new spouses, new girlfriends, and new babies. This year at the table - which was actually four tables end to end - there were 35 people with at least 11 more missing! Auntie Bev made us stick with tradition and go around the table and say what we are thankful for. This was met with groans, but we did it.

Of course I am thankful for family and health, a good husband, and a pretty good baby (most of the time), but what I said I was thankful for was that Justin works hard, and sometimes long hours, so that I can stay home with Hunter. I really am thankful for that. I'm so glad I get to stay home and see all the little milestones in his life.

Justin said Hunter looked awful (as awful as the cutest baby in the world can look) with his long hair, so with a little distraction Hunter got a haircut. I started out with scissors, but Hunter wouldn't sit still so I got out the trimmer. I put it on the longest setting and buzzed away.

I put the baby hairs in an envelope and will put it in Hunter's baby book. Justin thinks this is weird and a little gross, but I have my hair in my baby book and I think it's neat.

Well our blog has been somewhat empty lately, this is due in a large part to the evil "Facebook", so for all you out there in blog land whom do not facebook here is a copy of a newsletter that we sent out. - Justin

Justin and I have received a few newsletters this year so I thought I should send one out too. This year marked the one year anniversary of living in our own house, and all the fun and expense of that, Justin got a new dirt bike, I went on a trip to the Yukon, and most importantly we added one to our little family.

Hunter Justin was welcomed on May 6, 2007.
He is a happy little guy who makes us smile and laugh at his funny faces. He seems to have a preference for wires and computers, no matter how many balls I throw at him. I mean give him.

The summer was full of outings with our mommies group. At least once a week we gathered our kiddies and went to a park or the beach. There are a lot of little boys around for Hunter to grow up and play with.

Justin got a new-to-him dirt bike and truck. Many weekends were spent with buddies out on the dusty trail, with only one major fall, which resulted in one minor injury.

In October Hunter and I ventured up north to Haines Junction, Yukon to visit with Grandma and Grumpa Riseborough. Hunter travelled really well, and that was a huge relief to me! We only went outside a few times because there was a bear prowling the neighbourhood and it tried to get into a house.

Halloween was busy for me this year. Along with making Hunter and Sienna costumes, (Sienna won a costume contest, by the way) I made costumes for a number of other people, and sold some costumes on usedvictoria.com The most interesting costume I made was for a big teddy bear for charity.

My new endeavour this year was cake decorating. I took a decorating course and put my new found knowledge to the test. Brittany and Aaron Hawkes' wedding was my first paying gig.

Christmas was low key this year, but Hunter still got spoiled. He did well tearing the wrapping paper and of course was more interested in the packaging then what was inside. Most of my family was sick on or around Christmas day so things were quite mellow. Everyone is healthy now and we are ready for the New Year!

Yukon trip

As many of you know, I took Hunter up north to visit my Mom in Haines Junction, Yukon.Haines Junction is a tiny little town that doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to do. If you like camping, canoeing, hiking, and things of that nature then you would love it. It has huge mountains and a ton of untouched wilderness.

I have often thought it would be neat to live in a quaint little town with tree lined streets, slow pace, and friendly neighbors. However, I have come to the realization that I am a bit of a city slicker. While the charm of a small town still appeals, the ammenities of a bigger city, say twenty minutes away, also appeals.

Usually when I visit my Mom we go for a lot of walks, but not this time. This time there were two bears wandering around the neighborhood. One of them even went to a lady's house and pushed on the front door to try and get in. I conveniently had a small baby who needed protection. So instead we watched a lot of movies, did some crafts, and visited with a friend.

While we were driving we did see two Elk herds, a Buffalo herd, and a pack of wolves. Cool

Hello true believers Justin here again with a quick update.

We are not dead.
Reinforcements in the shape of Gramma R arrive tonight.
We have resisted our urges to strangle our crying child @ 3am.
We still love him (although not at 3am)

Ok.. parenting is, at this point everything, everybody says it is; messy, smelly, sleepy bitchy and a lot of other eyys that I will not go into but also somewhat satisfying go figure.

We are available for viewings but space is limited so book early....book often.

Justin here, You will have to forgive me this is my first post, but I am here to announce the birth of one: Hunter Justin MacDonald, Born 3:40pm/may 6 2007 (thats 34567 for you number geeks). He weighted in at 9Lbs 4 Oz, big but not the biggest that day as we heard some poor girl screech out a 12 pounder (owch). No length yet, but I am sure they will get around to measuring him. He was born by Cesarean Section, due to some complications, that although routine were a tad terrifying at the time. Family is doing fine and I must shower and return. My little brother is turning 29 today. For some reason I can accept that I am going to be 31 soon, but I have a really hard time believing that Brian is 29. That's too old. Weird. Here's some good memories of Brian:

- squishing army worms on the side of the house to see what colour blood they would have

- catching tadpoles and putting them on the road, only to run over them with his bike

- jumping out of his second story bedroom window to show off for the neighborhood kids

- "secretly" talking to eachother through the heat vents, realizing now that the heat vents went through the whole house, so not so "secret"

- realizing that we couldn't play fight anymore because he was now bigger than me

- skinning his whole face on the road, bad skateboarding accident!

Of course there's lots more. Happy Birthday Brian!

Last day of work!!!

Today was my last day of work. YAY!

The girls at work snuck around behind my back and took all these pictures. I had no idea that they were doing this and it was a nice suprise. We had cake and they all signed a card too.

I have worked at Fabricland for the last three and a half years, and while I will miss the staff there, I will definately not miss working in retail and dealing with the customers. They have been my biggest pet peeve.

This week marks week 33 in the baby countdown. Only seven weeks left hopefully. I'm not in the 70lbs club - thank goodness- my ankles aren't swollen, I don't have Gestestional Diabetes, I'm not really that tired, and I have no problem sleeping, or rolling over in bed. I realize all you mom's out there are thinking "that'll change, haha" but keep it to yourselves, thank you very much.

I feel the baby moving a lot and that is very exciting. I have a feeling that I will go into labour in the middle of the night because that is when he seems to be most active, but who knows right?

I am looking forward to work being over. My last day is March 31st and I won't miss it a bit.

As many of you know, we have been re-vamping our kitchen. Well it is finally done, and as promised, here are some before and after shots. We said good-bye to the painted countertops and tiles, and hello to new sleeker models. Brian installed the countertops and my Dad and Justin did the backsplash. Everyone has been telling me to update my blog, so here it is.

A few nights ago, I was upstairs on the computer and Justin was already in bed. All of a sudden we hear CRASH, crash, crash. Justin thought I fell down the stairs and I thought Justin had fallen out of bed and hit the bedside table. We discovered that the large mirror in the bathroom had fallen off the wall (it didn't break) and hit the pedistal sink on the way down, knocking it askew. Justin decided it was time for a new set up. He had wanted a new sink for a long time, and hated the pedistal we had.

So Justin and his Dad went on a mission to find a new sink and this is what they came up with. Thanks to Rona we have a lovely new cabinet and sink with hidden storage underneath.

Last week was the church baby shower for Elizabeth and Sienna. It was hosted at Nicole's house. There was a lot of food and Elizabeth took home a ton of pink loot.

On December 30th we helped my Dad move into his new house. He and Bev are renting a much bigger house then before. Although they have the heaviest furniture known to man(so I've been told), they don't have much. They'll have to do some major shopping to fill up the new place. Helping that day was Justin, Brian, and cousin Travis. Ken and Shirley, and Dennis came later to help set up the new place.

PS. In case you haven't noticed from past blogs, my brother is pretty much incapable of taking a normal picture. Oh well, it's funny.

Hey peeps. Today Justin and Brian painted our baby's room. Yay. I was so happy when I came home from work and it was done. I was going to do it myself tomorrow, even though I know I shouldn't be painting when I'm pregnant, but I just wanted it done. Now it's ready for me and my Mom to paint a mural. I'll put pictures up later of that.

New Year's was spent at Ben and Sarah's house. There were about 16 people there. We had fondu, loud music, dirty dancing, cigars(not me), booze(not me either), and fireworks. Everything that New Year's should be. Good times.

I finally felt my baby move for the first time. That was neat, it felt like a little blup in my stomach.

Christmas

Well the festivities are over now and it's back to work I go :(

On Christmas Eve we had Justin's Mom, Dad, and brother over. Justin and I prepared a ton of food and most of it is sitting in our fridge now. We had WAY to much. We chatted and ate and opened a few presents. Justin got a tool holding thingy with little thingy's inside and I got some decorative dress forms for my house.

The evening ended early so I took some food to Dayna's and watched a movie with her. I thought about staying home, since it was Christmas Eve but Justin just wanted to play video games. So off I went.

This morning Justin and I got up at 8am and opened our stockings and gifts. Justin got a new bathrobe and a bowling shirt made by moi, and I got some slippers, a business card holder, and gift cards.

After we finished at our house we went to Dad's for the traditional quiche breakfast with the Lindoff's. Dad always makes a couple of choices and they are soooo good. After breakfast the Lindoff's left and we stayed and opened gifts. The gifts of choice this year were gift cards, except Brian got a video game.

Later in the afternoon Brian and Elizabeth went up to Ladysmith, and the rest of us had turkey at the Lindoff's. Auntie Carol always makes a great meal, and food just keeps coming out of the kitchen. Just when we think the meal and dessert is finished, and we're relaxing, out come snacks. Oy vay. Usually the parents try to sing the prayer while the kids(meaning the cousins and me, who are all in our 20's-30's) snicker under our eyelashes. This year we skipped the singing and went right to the reading of the Christmas story. Dennis brings out his father's bible that has seen many a year, and has lots of little notes in the margins, and we all pass the bible around the table and read a couple of verses. One tradition we did miss was the de-robing of Dennis. Usually turkey makes a person tired, but for some reason Dennis always gets hyper. This usually leads to an impromptu strip tease done to the "Blues Brothers," but not this year. We were all very relaxed.

All in all it was a great Christmas spent with family and friends. It is my favorite time of year. I hope everyone else had a great day too!

YAY! Today we finally had our ultrasound. Usually people have it around the 18 week mark, but I am now twenty weeks - half way - crazy! So with a full bladder (me not Justin) in we went. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long. The appointment was about a half hour. It was pretty cool to see the little body in there. The sonographer had a hard time getting some good pictures because of the squirmy little thing. It is all very exciting. Later I had to go to work, but on my break I went up to winners to the baby section, and I just couldn't resist buying a couple of baby outfits. So now I have my first little BLUE outfits. That's right blue, it's a boy!

On Sunday we got our Christmas tree. Brian came with us to Save On to help Justin lift it. In the pictures you can see it is very tall. Brian is 6'4" and the tree is a lot taller then him. I think it is 8'.

Annual Christmas Party

For the last few years Jeff and Nicole have hosted an evening of food and entertainment. Well tonight was the night. I came later because I had to work late, but I sent Justin with our trusty camera and he got a few shots. When I arrived the gift exchange was in full swing.

In years past their have been some nice, mundane gifts, and then there are the gifts that me and Justin bring. We usually try and get one nice gift and one joke gift. Last year Lana was the lucky recipient of a pirate that looked like he was peeing on a fence, and someone else got a lovely crystal dog...that had a clock in the stomach.
This year the lame present that no one wanted was a potato/apple peeler gadget. I'm not sure who got that. Justin came home with the game "Lost" like the TV show.

The food was great. Nicole always does some awesome Christmas baking, and this year was no exception. My favourite is the white chocolate with chopped up candy canes. Yummmm.

On Thursday night Justin and I had a nurse to our house to issue a test. We had applied for life insurance through Sunlife and they sent a nurse to our house. We had to take a urine test for drugs and AIDS. That was kind of weird and I was a little nervous, even though we had nothing to worry about. The nurse said it was routine, but still.

Then later we went out for dinner with Brian and Elizabeth, and Sienna. Elizabeth told us that some old lady was getting after her for having Sienna out so early, and in the cold weather. That old lady should mind her own business. I don't get how total strangers can feel like it's OK to offer advice. I can't wait for some old lady to say something like that to me, I'm not nearly as gracious as Elizabeth is;)

So far, I am not enjoying this blogging thing. It has stretched my attention span for computers to an uncomfortable level. I tried to upload a picture of myself to "my profile" but it wouldn't let me unless I downloaded some program. So I just left it.
